Since 1986, Mr. Van
Syckle has specialized in the medical imaging market segment known as Picture
Archiving and Communications (PACS). He has personally pioneered the
development of several key technologies and medical imaging standards including
image acquisition, workstation design, database management, archiving and the
DICOM Standard (Digital Imaging Communication in Medicine).
Mr. Van Syckle has
written several papers on PACS and image management and is known as “a
world-wide DICOM and IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) expert”. He has been a speaker throughout the world
at various conferences such as RSNA, SPIE, CAR, SCAR, ECR, HIMSS, JIRA, IHE and
more.

As Principal of DVS
Consulting, Mr. Van Syckle provides training, consulting, hospital planning,
integration services, etc. related to PACS, DICOM, IHE and HL7. He has personally trained thousands of
people and provided technical and marketing consultation with over 25 medical
imaging vendors in the US, Europe and Japan.
Merge
Technologies Inc. (April 1996 to March 2001)
As
Director of Product Innovation, Mr. Van Syckle was responsible for marketing
and development teams related to products such as digital archiving, image
workstations, image acquisition and HL7 to DICOM interfaces. Integration of Merge products with other
vendor PACSs played an important role of this team.
As
Director of MergeLink Professional Services, Mr. Van Syckle lead a team of
highly experienced consultants providing service for the integration of the
healthcare enterprise related to IHE, PACS, DICOM, and HL7. Such services include strategic hospital
planning, system integration, training, acceptance testing, vendor consulting,
etc.
DICOM
WG6 Chairman (1994 – January 2001)
Mr.
Van Syckle was the Chairman of the DICOM lead technical committee (WG6) for
over seven years. He has been (and
currently is) a member of various DICOM committees since 1989 and has authored
multiple sections of the DICOM Standard.
Mr. Van Syckle is also an active member of the planning and technical
committees for the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) initiative.
GE
Medical Systems (1981-1996)
Held
various positions within GE, from Software Developer/Designer to Senior System
Architect. Included the development of
many PACS related products (i.e. image acquisition, workstations, archives,
etc.) and the integration of these products within GEMS, hospitals and other
vendors.
Degree
Mr.
Van Syckle holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Western Michigan
University.
